Brian King:
Principal Artist
Lexington Sound Consortium is the brainchild of Brian King, a Boston area vibraphonist and multi-instrumentalist. After a 10 year hiatus, Brian returned to making music in 2024 when a happy accident led to him playing a "bass" gig. Needless to say, he was hooked again. Brian is grateful to the musicians and listeners in the Lexington and greater Boston area for welcoming him into the scene with so much positivity and warmth.
Brian's approach to music focuses on an appreciation for tradition while attempting to push the creative envelope. In his mind, no idea is too odd to deserve a proper attempt at realization. Both success and failure is instructive and Brian's groups embrace the process to find the heart of their music.
Currently, Brian is involved with several musical projects, including leading Four Leaf Clover (with Chris Dupuis), leading Jazz Chemists, and playing gigs with many local groups such as the Real Book All Stars and many others. He can be found at many jam sessions in the Boston area playing the MalletKat.
From a young age, Brian has been obsessed with music of all types, which has led to a lifelong passion for finding innovative and interesting music to play and listen to. Even while on hiatus from playing, he was an active listener and promoter of the arts.
Brian holds a degree in Percussion Performance from Shenandoah University where he studied with Earl Yowell (former principal timpani, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra) and Al Young (Eric Byrd Trio). He also had the pleasure of playing in many or the university's ensembles and taking classes from the artists such as Alan Baylock and Matt Niess among many others.
